Description

As a book of the Yunnan Ethnic Folklore Classics, Old Folk Songs of the Dai & the Naxi includes ten folk songs of the Dai and the Naxi. Old songs are folk tales popular among the ethnic groups in south China. They tell the myths and legends of the creation of the world as imagined by the ancestors of these people.
While collecting the songs, Zhou first invited Zanha, local professional singers, to sing, but later he asked some minority university students who could sing to come and help. Those students were not only proficient in their own minority languages but also had learned Mandarin Chinese. So songs recorded w ere closer to their originals and became important materials for study of the folk literature and culture of the Dai and the Naxi.
