Description

The book is about the story between the well-known scientist, wildlife protector Long Yongcheng and his beloved Yunnan snubbies. Long first heard about the monkey back in 1980s, and since then he started a lifetime career of protecting and researching this species endemic to China. During his field work of the past 30 years, Long had encountered lots of difficulties with monkey groups and met all sorts of people, including other researchers, poachers, local villagers and governors. Impressive stories between Long’s team and the monkey groups were recorded in the book. It was shocking for them to witness the hunt of monkey groups and frustrating to experience weeks of unfruitful waiting in mountains in the snow. However, nothing can compare to the thrilling moment of discovering a whole new group of Yunnan snubbies after years’ of waiting and searching. In the end, the part about Long’s thinking on the undertaking of wildlife protection were very useful guide for all the practitioners of the field around the world.

Author

Long Yongcheng, director of Chinese society of zoology, chief expert of Yunnan snubby protection project of American Society for the protection of nature, and former leader of Chinese primate expert group. Through long-term scientific research, he found out the exact geographical distribution and quantity of all natural populations of Yunnan snubbies in China, carried out the research on ecological behavior of Yunnan snubbies, and put forward the strategic countermeasures for the protection of Yunnan snubbies. He has participated in the major projects of the World Wildlife Fund and the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the eighth five year plan, and put forward a series of strategic countermeasures for the protection of Yunnan snubby. He is the author of "Research on the protection strategies of Yunnan snubby", "Research on the geographical distribution, population quantity and related ecology of Yunnan snubby", "geographical distribution, population quantity and protection status of Yunnan snubby", "World Natural Heritage - Three Parallel Rivers" and other works.
