Description

First defined by Martin Seligman in 1999, positive psychology is a scientific study of human strengths and virtues that can foster motivation and personal ability to achieve the goal of every human being: happiness. It is about expanding the individual perspective through an introspection in our emotions, a personal work that is possible to learn and train.

Once the theoretical bases are understood, they can be applied to real cases that are practical when facing the difficulties that may arise in life, whether they are wounds and traumas from the past, suffering from pain or illness, coping with grief, overcoming a addiction, a breakup, a family problem or simply improve self-esteem to achieve the desired balance and psychological well-being.

To achieve happiness, we must first define it. It is not just a more or less abstract concept, but it is necessary to meditate on what makes us really happy and learn to give importance to what really has it, as well as to relativize what does not. Focusing on those interests will help us not to waste time and make steady progress in our purpose. Of course, we must know the fundamental concepts of positive psychology, studying emotions in depth, both primary and secondary, and emotional development at different stages of life. It is also important to know how to detect psychological symptoms that can be alleviated with the therapies and interventions of this school.

Finally, everything learned can be applied to the most common problems that we have divided into chapters with practical cases in which positive psychology can be successful: how to manage depression at work from within or the attitude of people who suffer from chronic pain, what to do when those who suffer are children, adolescents or the elderly, how to strengthen resilience, deal with grief, deal with addictions or cyberbullying, how to improve family and partner relationships... All with a single goal: to live much happier.

CHENCHA GARCÍA (Jumilla, Murcia, 1973) has a degree in Psychology from the University of Murcia and has worked as a clinical psychologist and psycho-educational trainer. The psychological models that she has developed the most are EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). She also runs a Positive Discipline based parenting workshop called ParentingLab101. She has lived on three different continents, quite a privilege for someone who loves to observe people and gain as wide a view of the world as possible.

MIRIAM MARTÍNEZ FERNÁNDEZ (Valladolid, 1971) has a degree in Psychology from UNED and has worked for NGOs, in Social Services, and in a private clinic. His psychological specialty is third generation therapies, especially EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and TFE (Emotional Focused Therapy). His own vital experience has taught him that second chances are possible, since before dedicating himself to psychology he gave up his Economics degree and the labor market of the management secretariat. He loves to travel and uses his hobby of making enamel jewelry as a mindfulness therapy.
