Review

“The idea that quantum physics can be told not as an enigma for the initiated, but as a form of everyday wonder is the boldest gesture of this book.”
—Simone Severini

Feature

★Preface by Simone Severini, computer scientist, Distinguished Engineer at Google, Director of Quantum Computing at Amazon Web Services.
★This book transforms the enigmatic principles of quantum physics—from Schrödinger’s cat to quantum entanglement—into an engaging narrative of everyday wonder. Guided by leading expert Riccardo Adami, readers explore how quantum mechanics is not only reshaping our understanding of reality but also revolutionizing technology, particularly through quantum cryptography, which promises to redefine data privacy and security in the digital age.
★Structured as a compelling trilogy—Physics, Philosophy, and Technology—this work offers a rare synthesis of deep scientific insight, philosophical reflection, and real-world application. Whether you are curious about the foundations of quantum theory, intrigued by its philosophical implications, or interested in next-generation technologies like quantum encryption, this book serves as an authoritative yet accessible guide, authored by a distinguished professor at the forefront of quantum research and education.

Description

Even if we don’t realize it, our lives are permeated by a physical theory—quantum mechanics—and a mathematical theory—cryptography. Without quantum physics, we would have neither computers nor mobile phones. Cryptography, moreover, has become pervasive: we are surrounded by microphones and cameras, and we make almost uninterrupted use of email, online banking transactions, and social media.

Adami guides us on a journey through the principles of quantum physics, passing through Schrödinger’s cat and the mystery of entanglement; the aim is to provide us with the necessary tools to understand the basics of quantum cryptography, which is precisely concerned with ensuring secure communications and the confidentiality of our data.
