Description

Reported by Kyodo News' OVO, entertainment news trend media GIGA PARK, and "Minjok News"!

A woman who had struggled with severe depression, upon learning of the suicide of her 32-year-old Korean actor Park Yong-ha, whom she considered her mental pillar, conceived the idea in her despair: "I must go to his grave and express my gratitude in Korean!" — This obsession prompted her to start learning Korean at the age of 44.
Seven years later, at 51, she transformed from an ordinary housewife to a Korean film and television subtitle supervision expert, completing a life reversal at an unconventional speed.

The book truly records her 25 years of housewife life's confusion, psychological struggles when facing "illness" and "idol suicide", and how she reshaped herself through values such as "focusing on one thing", "ignoring others'opinions" and "living fully in the present".
"There is no need to be perfect, just be true to yourself" and "keep going happily" — these beliefs that run through the entire book will bring readers the courage to face life!

Author

Rie Hanaoka

Korean (Asian) Film and Television Subtitle Supervisor / Translation Practitioner (Korean-Japanese direction)

Born in Tokyo's Shibuya in 1966. Graduated from Teikyo University's Faculty of Literature, Department of Japanese Literature (currently the Department of Japanese Culture), and later became a graduate student at Waseda University (specializing in Japanese language and literature). She soon got married and lived as a full-time housewife for about 25 years.

In 2010, while deeply troubled by severe depression, the Hallyu star Park Yong-ha, who gave her hope to live, ended his life at the age of 32. Struck by this, she had a strong desire to "go to Yong-ha's grave and express my gratitude in Korean (to him who prevented me from going to the extreme and gave me hope to live)", and took this as an opportunity to start learning Korean in 2011 at the age of 44. In 2017, she completed the film and television translation course at Nishihara Subtitle Co., Ltd. The same year, at 51, she joined Contents Seven Co., Ltd. as a Korean drama subtitle supervisor.
It took her only 7 years from starting to learn Korean to debuting as a subtitle supervisor. She became a freelancer in 2019. In 2021, she passed the translation practice test "TQE®" (Korean to Japanese direction) on her first try and obtained the qualification of "Translation Practitioner®". Her main supervised works include "Rich Man~Lies Are the Beginning of Love~", "Bad Dad", "Deva's Bride~Compass of Love and Revenge", "Dangerous Promise", "Goryeo-Khitan War", etc.
