Because it conveys peace and deep feelings, blue is the favorite colour of most human beings. It’s the colour of the sea and the sky, which is why it’s always been a symbol of spirituality and nobility. But blue is also the colour of melancholy and nighttime, the threshold of unknown, hidden issues. Valentina Zucchi and Viola Niccolai analyze it through artworks by Giotto, Dürer, Canaletto, Picasso, Kandinskij, Yves Klein and other masters.

Valentina Zucchi was born in 1977 in Biella, Piedmont. She first graduated in History of Modern Art and then in Conservation of Cultural Heritage and has been working on the relation between museums and visitors ever since. She created a department for education at Santa Maria della Scala, in Siena, and contributed to the development of an art lab at Palazzo delle Esposizioni and Scuderie del Quirinale, in Rome. Since 2004 she lives in Florence where she devotes herself to enhance the collection of Musei Civici Fiorentini, that is where this series of books about colours come from.
