Red belongs to a new series of P.i.P.P.o. collection published in collaboration with Musei Civici di Firenze, each one being dedicated to a specific colour. The first is Red, king of all colours, proud, lively, powerful. It stands for fire, blood and love. But we should rather speak at the plural form since there are so many kinds of red: purple, crimson, red lead, cinnabar, vermilion, carmine and many others. This book seeks how red is presented in the works of major and minor artists, for children to learn art history by exercising their observation and practicing drawing.

Valentina Zucchi was born in 1977 in Biella, Piedmont. She first graduated in History of Modern Art and then in Conservation of Cultural Heritage and has been working on the relation between museums and visitors ever since. She created a department for education at Santa Maria della Scala, in Siena, and contributed to the development of an art lab at Palazzo delle Esposizioni and Scuderie del Quirinale, in Rome. Since 2004 she lives in Florence where she devotes herself to enhance the collection of Musei Civici Fiorentini, that is where this series of books about colours come from.

After devoting to classical studies, Paolo D'Altan (Milan, 1964) entered the field of illustration in 1987 as an autodidact, working as a freelance for major Italian advertising agencies. Then he turned to children's literture and started working with Italian and foreign publishers. Among the prizes he's been awarded there are two gold metals from Art Directors Club Italiano for advertising illustrations in 1991 and 1995; Premio Cento for illustration in 2006; Premio Annual Illustratori of the Italian Association of illustrators for the advertising section; Premio Torino Città di Cultura and Premio Andersen as best illustrator in 2011. He's been selected for several exhibitions in Italy and abroad and he held the position of president of the Italian Association of Illustrators as well as founder of Rebelot. He lives and works in Milan, where he teaches illustratios and Corel Painter, the illustration software he masters as a beta tester.
