Description

One day Mister Guglielmo finds two wings under a peach tree in his garden. To whom could they belong? he wonders. Maybe to someone who’s lost them or left them here but will come and find them. So he starts looking for their owner all over the city. The people he comes across either fool him or think he’s crazy. Until one morning, as he touches the wings for the first time, he realizes something extraordinary. A philosophic story, as light as a feather, that flies off into the sky thanks to the poetic, subtle humour of Cristina Bellemo and Mariachiara di Giorgio.

Author

Cristina Bellemo was born in 1970 in Bassano del Grappa, where she currently lives. After studying humanities at secondary school, she graduated in Ancient Greek at Padua University. She’s been working as a journalist for several magazines and she’s director of L’AbBeCedario, a magazine issued by the A.B.C. Association (Associazione Bambini Chirurgici) of Burlo Garofolo children’s hospital in Trieste. She’s written a number of books (Edizioni Messaggero Padova, Erickson Edizioni, Zoolibri, Topipittori, Rizzoli) and curated art catalogues for Bozzetto Edizioni. Besides, she’s been awarded literary prizes such as Trofeo Baia delle favole within Premio Andersen for La leggerezza perduta. She’s married to Massimiliano and has a daughter, Cecilia, and a son, Sebastiano. Since many years, she regularly meets children and adults with whom she shares the passion and the magic of storytelling. She collaborates with the eccentric theatre company I Poffargnacchi and she often leaves for unexpected journeys: her baggage is a cart full of books. She won the 2021 Italian Andersen Prize for Best Author.

Mariachiara Di Giorgio was born in Rome in 1983. She studied illustration in Rome, at IED, and in Paris, at ENSAD. During college, she started collaborating as a cartoonist for FAO as well as a storyboard artist and concept designer for movies and ad agencies. Between 2010 and 2001, she worked as background artist for the making of The dark side of the sun, a film by Carlo Hintermann and Lorenzo Ceccotti. She joined the publishing field in 2012, illustrating some of Rodari’s books for Editori Internazionali Riuniti, followed by Editori Laterza, DeAgostini, Else Edizioni, Mondadori, Linus magazine and shops from La Città del Sole. Her work has been exhibited at Bologna Children’s Book Fair Illustrators Exhibition (2015 and 2016) and at the 58th edition of The New York Society of Illustrator’s Exhibition. She won the 2022 Italian Andersen Prize for Best Illustrator.
