The publication of "The Wonderful Adventures of Nils" in 1907 made her a world-renowned literary giant, earning her a reputation comparable to the Danish fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen. In 1909, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for "the lofty idealism, vivid imagination, and spiritual perception that characterize her writings."
