————————————————————————————————————————————
*Wang Yangming was a rare triple‑threat genius in Chinese history – philosopher, military strategist, and educator. His philosophy of “the unity of knowledge and action” has been passed down for over 500 years and continues to resonate globally.

In Chinese history, Wang Yangming defeated a 100,000‑strong rebel army with fewer than 30,000 troops, quelling the Prince of Ning’s rebellion in just over 40 days – the ultimate historical testament to his philosophy. His core concept of “the unity of knowledge and action” has had a profound influence in East Asia, particularly in Japan and Korea, where Wang Yangming study societies still exist today. His ideas deeply inspired the reformers of the Meiji Restoration, and in the Japanese business world, many entrepreneurs have put “the unity of knowledge and action” into practice as a management philosophy – including prominent figures such as Kamei Masao (Chairman of Sumitomo Electric Industries) and Ushio Jiro (Chairman of Ushio Inc.).

In the West, Harvard University, the University of Hawaii, and Columbia University all have research institutions dedicated to Wang Yangming studies. In the United Kingdom, translations and compilations of Wang’s life and works began as early as 1913, with the first English translation published in 1916.

Description

This book unfolds through vivid and engaging comic narratives centered around the two brothers, Dahua and Xiaohua. They face typical challenges in daily life: learning difficulties, conflicts with friends, self-doubt, and family expectations. By exploring Wang Yangming's wisdom of "The Unity of Knowledge and Action", such as "Knowing without acting is not true knowing", they learn to transform knowledge into action.
For example, in the chapter "When interacting with friends, strive to be humble", Xiaohua understands the importance of humility through an ancient story and resolves a quarrel with a friend in a modern scenario; in "Calm in stillness, steady in action", Dahua learns to maintain inner peace under pressure, applying it to exams and social situations. Each chapter simplifies profound philosophical concepts into easily understandable lessons through humorous comic plots, allowing readers to experience a journey of wisdom amidst laughter.
This book is not only an introduction to philosophy but also a growth guide, helping teenagers and young readers cope with common life issues, emphasizing practical wisdom and personal development. The overall narrative is smooth, and the art style blends traditional and modern elements.

Author

Wang Yangming (1472-1529) was a Chinese philosopher, military strategist, and educator of the Ming Dynasty, regarded as one of the most influential thinkers of his time, often compared to Western philosophers like William James for his pragmatism, as his thought emphasizes the unity of practice and experience. He founded the Yangming School of Mind, with core concepts "The Unity of Knowledge and Action" and "Extension of Innate Knowledge", which not only sparked multiple intellectual liberation movements in Chinese history but also spread to countries like Japan and South Korea, becoming a cornerstone of East Asian philosophy (for example, Japanese Yangming studies directly inspired modern reforms). Wang Yangming's military achievements, such as defeating a larger force to quell the Ningwang Rebellion, can be used as case studies to demonstrate the applicability of his philosophy in leadership and strategy, comparable to Western classics like “The Art of War”. In recent years, his thought has gained attention in global philosophical and business circles for exploring personal effectiveness and organizational management, suitable for overseas readers seeking cross-cultural wisdom resources.
