Review

"This series uses vividly illustrated stories to not only interpret ancient Chinese military strategies, but also inspire associations with practical wisdom for modern life. The contemporary artistic style is visually appealing, making this a children's book truly worth owning. While healthy interpersonal relationships should not be built on cunning schemes, the thoughtful application of the Thirty-Six Stratagems can indeed help children better navigate certain life challenges."
— Tan Banghe, Professor, School of Chinese Language and Literature, Central China Normal University

*Note:"The 36 Stratagems", interpreted in this book, holds a status in the field of strategic classics comparable to "The Art of War", together forming the core of Eastern wisdom. Just as "The Art of War" has become essential reading in Western business schools and military academies, the thinking behind the "The 36 Stratagems" has been applied in leadership and management practices by international figures such as Konosuke Matsushita and former U.S. President Richard Nixon. This book aims to transform this time-tested "Eastern Strategic Think Tank" into a fun tutorial for cultivating the next generation's problem-solving.

Description

Acquaintance crime, online fraud, campus violence, harmful cultural influences... daily life is full of hidden dangers and problems. Without an absolutely safe "vacuum" environment, how can children enhance their strategic thinking to avoid danger, protect themselves and solve problems?

This is an educational manga for children aged 8-12, transforming the ancient Chinese military classic "The 36 Stratagems" into an easy-to-understand life guide through comic stories. The narrative follows the daily experiences of elementary school students Dahua and Xiaohua, showing how they use the wisdom of the 36 Stratagems to tackle real-world problems.

For example, in the stratagem "Relieving the State of Zhao by Besieging the State of Wei", instead of confronting head-on a classmate who seizes his belongings, Dahua employs an indirect approach to resolve the issue. In "Waiting at Ease for the Exhausted Enemy", Xiaohua faces the defending champion in a competition and learns to remain calm, conserve strength, and act decisively. In "Hiding a Dagger Behind a Smile", the children learn to be wary of overly friendly strangers to avoid potential danger.

Each problem corresponds to a stratagem from the 36 Stratagems, with each strategy demonstrated through dual interpretation of historical cases and modern scenarios. Historical parts are presented as short cases (like ancient war stories), while modern parts focus on familiar situations for children.

The core of the book is to impart a "strategic thinking mode" — how to analyze problems, formulate plans, and respond flexibly, while helping children learn strategic thinking, self-protection, and interpersonal skills. This highly aligns with the "4C abilities" (Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, Creativity) emphasized in Western education. Through the manga format, complex strategies become intuitive, making it suitable as supplementary reading for school Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) or family education.
