Description

Based on the true story of Huang Ah Ma, this book chronicles his years as a stray!
Before becoming the "Huang Ah Ma" we know today, he was once a stray cat wandering the streets. Life on the road was full of hardships, enduring countless storms and trials, and even suffering bullying and harm from humans. Yet, amidst all the difficulties, he endured everything, walking step by step through a rugged fate, eventually transforming from a stray cat into the revered "Master of the Harem." This is his legend, and also a beautiful poem of life.

Zhi Ming's Note
What kind of life did Ah Ma live before? This was a question that lingered in my mind from the very first day we met Ah Ma.
Thinking back to when we first found Ah Ma, whenever we brought our hands close to his face, he would instinctively squint his eyes and flinch, without fail. So, quite intuitively, we imagined: "Was Ah Ma slapped by someone before?" Plus, when he first arrived, Ah Ma would pee everywhere due to being in heat, and there was the incident where he tore the window screen at Límāo's old place. This made us wonder even more: "Did he run away from home?"
And so, this is the origin of this comic book. Everything started from that one small gesture.
"I really want to know what happened to him before." I think this is a feeling shared by anyone who has a pet that was once a stray. We always fantasize about their past experiences. The stories of these stray animals only begin after they meet us; before that, we have no way of knowing who they met or what they went through. So, all sorts of speculations always lingered deep in our hearts, until one day we suddenly thought: "Why not just draw the story we've imagined in our heads!" The story of what happened before we met Ah Ma.
Li Mao's Note
The framework of this comic is composed of our knowledge of Ah Ma, the actual background of the area where we met, combined with real events that happened at the time, and a touch of imagination!
For example, the three dogs in the story (Xiao Hua, Xiao Hui, and Xiao Hei) were all real stray dogs that existed on Yangmingshan back then. Xiao Hua, in particular, was a dog that roamed Chinese Culture University for over ten years. Many people who attended the university back then should have seen him. A few years after we graduated, some junior students even created a Facebook fan page for him called "Cultural Guardian God - Xiao Hua." Xiao Hua passed away in the early hours of April 3, 2018, and officially "graduated" from Chinese Culture University.
In order to combine real events with imagination and make the story flow, we also used a different approach for the artwork. The process from conception to completion took about a year.
The year of this book's publication is 2025, which also happens to be the year of Ah Ma's 18th birthday (2025.01.07). This timing wasn't intentional on our part, but rather a happy coincidence of fate. Thinking about it, it feels incredibly memorable. So, we want to dedicate this book to Ah Ma, hoping he continues to be healthy and safe. And also to all of you who have been by Ah Ma's side. Thank you. We hope that after reading this book, your hearts will feel as warm as ours do right now.
