Description

In a world where humans and spirit coexist, humans rely on their wisdom while spirit possess formidable strength. Once on the brink of extinction, humanity discovered powerful artifacts—magic treasures—that could counter the spirit. This led to the rise of the first family capable of wielding these treasures: the Wangquan Family. Under the protection of the Yiqi Alliance, a coalition of such families, humanity entered a fleeting era of peace.

However, five centuries ago, the peace was shattered. The Black Fox spirit manipulated humans and spirit into a brutal war, plunging the world into chaos. A mighty master intervened, erecting a golden light barrier to seal away the Black Fox spirit, allowing those within the “Circle” to live in relative safety. Upon vanishing, this master left behind a cryptic warning: “Eradicate passion and hatred, lest eternal night falls.”

Now, the families of the Yiqi Alliance have grown powerful. Yet, many have strayed from the righteous path, slaughtering and subjugating spirit. A new war between humans and demons looms.

Dongfang Huaizhu, from the spiritual Dongfang Clan, masters the Pure Yang Flame. Intelligent and resilient, she possesses a gentle demeanor yet an indomitable spirit. Wangquan Baye, the young genius leader of the Wangquan Family, is immensely powerful and driven by a thirst for truth. He founded the “Mask” organization to explore the world’s secrets.

Their fateful encounter occurred at a bamboo pavilion by the Huai River, where Baye rescued Huaizhu. Bonding over a bamboo flute, they developed mutual affection and made a promise, making the pavilion a symbol of their love. Tragedy struck when Baye and his Mask team ventured beyond the Circle: his comrades perished, and his “Sword Heart” was shattered, leaving him a broken man.

Duty-bound to continue his lineage and produce the ultimate “Daoist Weapon,” Baye needed to marry. Understanding his burden, Huaizhu selflessly proposed marriage. Their union, built on profound understanding, sacrifice, and shared responsibility rather than pure romance, became a partnership of mutual support against adversity.

The story centers on their married life, their battles against common foes, and their efforts to raise their son, Wangquan Fuguì, into the ultimate Daoist Weapon. Huaizhu ultimately died in childbirth, leaving Baye heartbroken. Donning the mask she always despised, he lived on for years, dedicating himself to training Fuguì while forever haunted by memory and regret.

Author

Tuo Xiaoxin

A popular Chinese comic artist born in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province, Tuo Xiaoxin graduated from the China Academy of Art. He joined Hangzhou Summer Island Film & Animation Production Co., Ltd. in 2008. In March 2017, due to disputes over exploitation and deception, he confronted the company’s founder Yao Feila and left Summer Island. Shortly afterward, with support from Tencent Animation, he regained the copyright to Fox Spirit Matchmaker. His personal comic avatar is a short-snouted crocodile—which has “died” several times, a self-referential joke about his tendency to delay updates, often joking about living in fear of receiving “fan mail” in the form of mailed blades (a Chinese internet meme expressing readers’ impatience). His representative works include Fox Spirit Training Manual, Soul Strategy, and Fox Spirit Matchmaker.

Mai Miao

A well-known Chinese author and member of the Tianjin Writers Association, Mai Miao is passionate about writing, painting, and reading. Her work My Beluga Boyfriend was adapted into a film in 2019. The film and television rights to her other novels, including Zilong Plays in the Sunshine and Fashion Queen in the Sanatorium, have also been sold.
