This book is a novel adaptation of the iQiyi drama “Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Moon & Red,” categorized as a fantasy historical romance set in an fictional world.

It tells the story of a world fraught with conflicts between humans and spirits, where Tu Shan Honghong, the righteous leader of the Fox Clan of Mount Tu, saves Dongfang Yuechu, the last survivor of the human Dongfang family. Aspiring for equality and peace between humans and spirits, Tu Shan Honghong joins forces with Dongfang Yuechu to undertake the mission of fostering romantic bonds between humans and spirits. Their goal is to resist the dark forces eroding the Sorrowless Tree, which protects Mount Tu, and to dismantle the sinister powers that sow discord between humans and spirits.

The plot centers on the love between Tu Shan Honghong and Dongfang Yuechu, showcasing their magnificent emotional journey that transcends racial boundaries and challenges fate. The story also interweaves multiple love tales, including the “Imperial Beast Kingdom Romance,” “Qian Yan Romance,” and “Weisheng Romance.”

The main plotlines and outcomes are as follows—
Core Conflict and Sacrifice: To sever the Black Fox’s entry into the “Inner Circle,” Tu Shan Honghong plans to sacrifice herself by burning the Sorrowless Tree. Dongfang Yuechu understands Honghong's intention and, to save her, uses the Tears of Void, exhausting his own life force. Ultimately, Yuechu offers his spiritual blood to the Sorrowless Tree, while Honghong combines her demonic power with his to defeat the Black Fox, restoring peace to the six realms. However, Mount Tu is left desolate in the aftermath.

Protagonists’ Outcome: Dongfang Yuechu and Tu Shan Honghong successfully form a bond under the Sorrowless Tree. A century later, the Sorrowless Tree regenerates, and Tu Shan Honghong is reborn as a child (Su Su). In the ending, Dongfang Yuechu also reincarnates and reunites with Tu Shan Honghong, marrying her and achieving a fulfilling conclusion.

Supporting Characters’ Outcomes: Butai and Shi Kuan (“Imperial Beast Kingdom Romance”), Lü Jianwen and Yan Rushan (“Qian Yan Romance”), Yue Ti Xia and Hu Weisheng (“Weisheng Romance”): Most of these couples do not reunite in the real world but continue their relationships in “another dimension” or reunite in another form after enduring life-and-death trials.

Thus, the drama’s ending is considered seemingly ideal but ultimately leaves regrets for most of the supporting characters.

Tuo Xiaoxin
