Description

A heartfelt story of two brothers—one with developmental disabilities,
and the other who became a special education teacher.

We often build invisible fences around what we call “normal,” taking comfort in fitting inside and fearing life outside of it. Growing up with a brother who has developmental disabilities, the author was seen as different. But that difference opened the door to a hidden world—one filled with quiet joys, raw emotions, and love without conditions.
His brother, in his slow and awkward ways, carried a brilliance that the fast-paced world often overlooks.

The author invites readers to rethink how we define value. Just because someone doesn't keep up with the world's speed doesn’t mean their worth is less. He questions the line between “disabled” and “non-disabled,” exposing how those labels limit the richness of human experience. And he gently asks us: What are you really comparing things to when you say something is normal?

As both a brother and a teacher, Jang Han-saem speaks from lived experience. He shares the emotional weight of being part of a family with a disabled member—and how unfair that burden can sometimes feel.
Now working with children as a special education teacher, he paints a clear picture of how quickly these kids are labeled as “problems” and pushed aside by a broken system. He reminds us that sympathy and good intentions are not enough. What’s needed is true understanding and a willingness to stand beside those society often overlooks. This book isn't simply touching because it tells a tearful family story. It's powerful because one person has spent a lifetime trying to see, accept, and understand another. Disability isn't something to be overcome—it’s a reminder to ask ourselves how we can live together with care, dignity, and respect.
