Foreword

Chapter 1 The Death of Zeng Cheng
The night had grown very deep.
The experimental building of Leizhou City Medical College was shrouded in darkness. Located in the southeast corner of the campus, the building was a considerable distance from both the teaching buildings and the dormitory areas, taking about half an hour to walk there. Apart from the boiler house over a hundred meters away, the experimental building was the only structure in that corner. In front of it lay a lotus pond, surrounded by towering pine and cypress trees.
During the day, this place was already quiet, and at night it became even more silent. Medical students generally avoided the southeast corner unless they had a reason to be there. Even during the day, they rarely came to this area except for laboratory classes. They claimed that the place was eerie, and for some unknown reason, they felt a sense of gloom and horror whenever they approached the pine forest. If it was like this during the day, no one would come to this haunted place at night.
In addition to the pine forest and the formaldehyde-filled experimental building, the old caretaker of the boiler house, Old Qu, also contributed to the students' fear. Old Qu was a worker in the boiler house, and he spent all year round in that small building, always wearing his blue cotton work clothes. It was said that when he was a child, he had experienced a big fire, which not only disfigured his face but also severely affected his hearing. You had to shout at him when you spoke, and even then, he often gave irrelevant answers. Occasionally, he would say something that sent a chill down your spine, as if he were not speaking to you, even though you were sure there was no one else around.
In short, Old Qu was a strange man. He had no relatives or friends and lived alone in his boiler house. If it were not for the fact that he came to the school's finance office once a month to collect his salary, even the school leaders and colleagues might have forgotten that there was such a person in the school.
In fact, it was not only the students who avoided this place. The school staff also stayed away unless they had a reason to be there. Even the campus security guards would unconsciously skip this area during their patrols.
There were many ghost stories about the southeast corner in the school, but no one had ever actually seen the so-called "ghost." However, the place was shrouded in mystery and gradually became a "no-go area" in the school. Neither teachers nor students would step into the southeast corner unless they had a laboratory class.
However, on this quiet night, the sound of high-heeled shoes tapping the floor echoed through the experimental building. The sound came from afar and grew nearer, heading towards the dissection room.
As the footsteps approached, a dim light appeared in the corridor, just enough to illuminate the woman's path. The woman stopped in front of the door to the dissection room, and the sound of her footsteps ceased.
"Creak..." The door to the dissection room was not locked. The woman gently pushed it open and walked in. The light in the dissection room came on.
The woman was dressed in a white lab coat, black high-heeled shoes, and a mask covered her face. Her long black hair was disheveled over her shoulders. She was holding a small bag in her hand and gazed blankly at the dissection table in the center of the room.
At that moment, a naked man was lying on the dissection table. He lay there quietly, and you could still see his chest rising and falling slightly, as if he were asleep.
The woman put the bag on the table. She turned her head and looked at the neatly arranged instruments beside her, put on surgical gloves, and then picked up a scalpel.
She gently slapped the man's face and said, "It's time to wake up, isn't it?" In a short while, the man really opened his eyes. When he saw the scene in front of him clearly, fear appeared in his eyes. He tried to struggle, but he had no strength at all.
"You once said that a scalpel can save lives and also take lives. You also said that dissection is an art, and every dissected body should be a precious piece of art. You said the only thing you regretted was not being able to dissect a living person bit by bit to the fullest extent. Perhaps after tonight, you will have no regrets, because I will help you fulfill your wish and make you the perfect art in this world."
The woman's eyes were not only blank, but her voice was also devoid of any emotion.
The sound of the scalpel cutting through the skin came from the laboratory. Under the pale light, the woman was helping the man fulfill his long-cherished wish.
