Review

I finished reading this book yesterday. I was initially drawn in by the title, and then completely captivated by the nightmares experienced by several characters. These nightmares are like knots in one's heart, and the self-imposed constraints subtly trouble the self, plunging it into the dream of nightmares, or self-hypnosis, making it hard to extricate oneself and unwilling to face the realities of life. Just as the cover says, "A dream is a war you wage with yourself. Only by winning can you truly return to reality."
— Tan Kong, Reader

Feature

★A psychological suspense following the success of "The Hypnotist" and "The Memory Master", remaining a bestseller since publication.

★Eight nightmares, eight hidden truths — each story stands alone yet intertwines into a greater narrative mirroring urban youths' emptiness, helplessness, and confusion.

★Behind every bizarre dream lies secrets untold. This book delves into the often-overlooked realm of dreams, revealing true selves through a Master Dream Interpreter's analysis of the human psyche.

★A nightmare is a war with yourself. Only by winning can you return to reality.

Description

Overnight, Xiao Wanyang — once a privileged heiress — plunges into debt after her father's business collapse. Desperate, she takes a job at a remote "Nightmare Research Lab" run by the enigmatic Wan Dongyang, who cares only about decoding dark dreams.

The lab never closes, but its daytime and nighttime clients are worlds apart — all tormented by recurring nightmares:

She remains unmarried well past the age when society expects it, and repeatedly dreams of her own wedding, only to find herself standing alone at the altar...

In her dreams, she is invincible, capable of shattering every terrifying thing that stands in her way. Yet in reality, she can never break free from the heavy shackles of her past...

She hides an old, tattered doll in her wardrobe. No matter how many times she tries to discard it, it always reappears...

She says that the reflection in the mirror is never of herself, but of the dreadful nightmare lurking deep within her heart...

He has fled many cities and engaged in numerous relationships. But no matter how many beautiful women he has by his side, the charred woman is always the one lying beside him in the dead of night...

He can help others emerge from their nightmares, yet he himself keeps wandering in the darkness, unable to find a way out...

Ever since he got together with her, he has been dreaming that he is entangled by a spider, whose web is the blood-red thread in her hands...

When she feels despair, large patches of red marks appear on her skin, resembling the most exquisite rose forest...

Behind countless strange dreams, there are always many secrets that remain unknown to others...
