Description

This is a science-fiction novel set against the backdrop of the mid-22nd century. The story begins with a mass-death incident of college entrance examination candidates ten years ago, revealing a society dominated by technology where people undergo brain-optimizing surgery in pursuit of high scores. This surgery, which involves implanting chips and reshaping brain structures to help students achieve high exam scores, also brings severe side-effects and even death to some candidates.
The protagonist, Wu Zhuangyuan, is one of the survivors of the surgery, and his experience runs through the entire story. From the fear before the surgery, the changes after the surgery, to eventually becoming a doorman at the Shengfulushou Hotel, Wu Zhuangyuan’s story shows the attitudes of different social classes towards this surgery. The middle-class and the rich spare no expense to enhance their children’s competitiveness, while the underprivileged are forced to accept this change.
