The protagonist of “Parasites” is a boy named Sava. By chance, he adopts a dog from the roadside. Sava likes the dog very much, but his mother does not. To make matters worse, the dog has parasites, which makes his mother feel as if facing a formidable enemy. However, with Sava and his father’s insistence, they take the dog to the clinic for a doctor’s diagnosis. During this process, Sava learns a lot about parasites. Sava’s uncle, a biologist, also tells him stories about the incredible parasites on Earth. With the doctor’s treatment and the careful care of Sava and his father, the dog gradually recovers. His mother also sees Sava’s sense of responsibility and finally agrees to adopt the dog.

This book explains to children in an easy-to-understand and entertaining way what parasites are, what types of parasites there are, what they look like, how parasites infect animals and humans, what their effects and harms are to the body, and what to do if infected with parasites. There is also a memo at the end of the book telling children how to prevent infection in daily life.
