Description

"They can make you say anything. "Anything". But they can't make you believe it. They can't get inside you."
The first illustrated edition in Spanish of the novel 1984 reaches bookstores with the stark prints of the Argentine artist Luis Scafati, who surpasses himself to offer one of his most impressive works of recent times.

Written in 1948, this work presents a lucid and devastating critique of totalitarian regimes, with undoubted diachronic resonances. We are facing a manifesto of our times, a classic that strikes with renewed force in this present in which we are slaves to technology, fake news and a handful of gigantic corporations.

The novel, set in a dystopian London of 1948, narrates how the Party suffocatingly dominates and controls the lives of citizens, making use of Big Brother, the omnipresent censorious eye, and the Thought Police, the arm that tortures and annihilate all who are dissidents. “Whoever controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past."

1984 is, together with Animal Farm, also published by our label, the most famous and impressive novel by George Orwell. Both have managed to transcend the punctual criticism towards which they directed their cannons when they were conceived: the totalitarian regimes of Hitler and Stalin. Essential for young and old, this book is considered one of the most widely read and influential since it was published in 1949.
