When Peter Tchaikovsky was a child, he liked to listen to stories, and his nanny would tell many stories.
When he became an adult, seeing his six-year-old nephew Bobic like listening to stories and playing the piano very much, he created a series of piano music that he could play. He named this piano music suite "Juvenile Collection" in memory of Robert Schumann, whom he admired. When referring to this suite, he wrote: "...I started to collect inspiration for children. I want to write a complete series of small pieces, very simple , The title is very attractive to children, such as Schumann’s."
This book tells the story of how Tchaikovsky came up with the songs in "The Collection of Boys". You can listen to this story on the CD, using Tchaikovsky's background music, which is this wonderful piano suite designed by him for his nephew.
