Description

Tommy Tevis tells Nero Mouse the plot of a book he likes but it's also frightening him terribly. It's "Misery" by Stephen King, in which the protagonist, the famous writer Paul Sheldon, has a serious car accident and is rescued. The rescuer is a big Sheldon fan, but when she discovers that the writer has a manuscript with him, in which his favourite heroine Misery Chastain dies, she decides to keep him prisoner to force him to change the ending: Misery must not die... or Sheldon will die!

Black doesn't blink an eye. He doesn't think it's such a scary story. In fact, he thinks the plot is so unlikely it's ridiculous! But things change when the Investigalibri Agency has a new client: Mister Noir, the famous publisher of horror books. His most successful writer, the award-winning Denton Ratt, has disappeared into the city's sewers and hasn't been heard from for a week. He was to give him the manuscript in which the adventures of his famous heroine ended with her death...

Well, that's a frightening coincidence. Is what happened to Paul Sheldon in King's novel happening to Denton Ratt? Maybe somebody kidnapped him and is holding him prisoner? Black, though skeptical, decides to investigate, and together with Tommy, he goes into the city sewers in search of the missing writer...
