Description

This carefully curated series brings together four of China's most renowned historical crime-solvers — Bao Zheng, Di Renjie, Hai Rui, and Shi Shilun—using comics to transport young readers into the fascinating world of ancient detective work. Each volume focuses on one legendary figure, presenting their most famous cases through dynamic illustrations and gripping storytelling that let children experience the thrill of deduction while uncovering timeless truths about human nature.

Di Renjie—better known in the West by his English name "Judge Dee"—is a truly unique figure in world detective fiction. Co-created by a real Tang Dynasty statesman and Dutch diplomat Robert van Gulik, he's often called the "Sherlock Holmes of the East." In reality, Di Renjie was an outstanding politician during the reign of Empress Wu Zetian. Historical records show that during his tenure as Chief Judge of the Supreme Court, he cleared over 17,000 backlogged cases in a single year without a single appeal. But his true historical legacy is that of a wise chancellor who governed with skill and dared to speak truth to power.

Bao Zheng—often called the "Chinese Robin Hood" by readers familiar with his legend. With his iconic crescent-shaped birthmark and dark complexion, Bao was a real-life Northern Song dynasty investigating censor renowned for his unwavering integrity. As Prefect of the capital Kaifeng, he reformed the legal system by opening the courthouse doors to allow common people to present their grievances directly. Today, Bao Zheng temples still stand throughout Southeast Asia, particularly in Singapore and Malaysia, where he is worshipped as a symbol of justice.

Hai Rui—the Ming Dynasty's "paragon of moral virtue," famous for his ultimate act of defiance: presenting the emperor with a scathing critique of his reign while carrying his own coffin to court, prepared to die for his convictions. An official of extreme frugality, legend has it that for his mother's birthday, the most lavish gift he could muster was two pounds of meat.

Shi Shilun—an incorruptible and fair-minded official beloved by the people, honored by the Kangxi Emperor as the "Most Upright Official South of the Yangtze." His detective stories are particularly distinctive for their unique fusion of "official case-solving" with "martial arts adventure"—blending courtroom drama with the thrilling world of wandering knights and folk heroes.
