Description

Little monkey went to cinema with her mother to watch a cartoon about her favourite Super Banana. Her friends, an elephant, a tigress and a peacock, also came to the cinema with their parents. As they waited for the cartoon to begin, monkey became so excited and impatient that she could not calm down in her seat. She was constantly asking questions, looking for water, then popcorn... She couldn't stop moving and was making a mess.
All the other children were calm, patiently waiting for the cartoon to start, only her monkey daughter was making problems, so mum decided to tell her that, loudly and in front of everyone. She started to criticise her little daughter and told her to be nice and polite. Little monkey immediately felt embarrassed because her mom was angry with her, and then she was overwhelmed with a feeling of shame.

This picture book, as the title itself suggests, deals with the feeling of shame in children. Shame is an unpleasant emotion that occurs when we feel wrong, less valuable. It occurs when a child experiences being judged by an adult at the level of his personal value. In other words, shame occurs when someone attributes negative traits to the child as a human being, instead of assessing the child’s behaviour as undesirable or unacceptable in a particular situation.

In this story about mother and daughter monkey, children will get to know the feeling of shame and learn how to recognize and name it in themselves. Parents will learn how to set boundaries for the child's upbringing, criticize child’s behaviour in a way that does not diminish the child's sense of self-worth and does not negatively affect his image of himself. Through the character of the little monkey, child will learn how to feel relief and to deal with the feeling of shame.
