Description
Yet the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 affirms that people "should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood", thus recognizing the universal oneness of the human race that lies behind its multiplicity of cultures. Even so, many people around the world continue to be rejected by others for belonging to cultures that are deemed different and inferior.
How then may we appreciate cultural diversity? Is it the expression of a common humanity or its negation? To answer this question, one has to grasp the full complexity of the notion of culture, as well as the issues it raises.
