Feature

★Since 1995, more and more of these mysterious stars, also known a“exoplanets” or “extrasolar planets”, have been discovered.
★Perhaps humanity's most fundamental question: is there life elsewhere in the Universe?

Description

There are billions of billions of stars in the Universe. Astronomers have developed techniques to answer this question: outside the Solar
System, are there other stars with planets orbiting them? These new planet types have, however, radically challenged the planetary system formation models that had been established on the basis of the Solar
System alone. Since detection methods have improved, studies have also focused on finding planets with Earth-like characteristics orbiting in their star's habitable zone. The search for planets outside our Solar
System is a key element in what is perhaps humanity's most fundamental question: is there life elsewhere in the Universe?
