Description

"Benito Cereno" is one of Herman Melville's most famous novels. Published in 1855, the book is based on the true story of the Spanish sea captain Benito Celeno.

The story happened in 1799. The slave ship "Santo Dominic" set off from Chile with more than 160 slaves on board, preparing to go to Callao, Peru. During the voyage, the black slaves, led by the black Babo, staged a rebellion and took control of the ship. They killed most of the white crew, leaving only a few white crew to drive the ship, and threatened them to sail the ship to Senegal. However, the ship was in trouble due to lack of fresh water and supplies, and could only wander near the coast for fear of being found out about the real situation on board and did not dare to go ashore. At this time, the American sealing ship "Happy Bachelor" found that the ship was acting abnormally, and the benevolent captain Amasa Delano boarded the "San Dominic" to provide generous help. At this time, Babo coerced the captain Benito Cereno to act as a perverse captain, while Babo disguised himself as Cereno's personal servant... Finally, after going through various thrills, Babo was arrested and Cereno eventually failed to recover from the incident, and died in a monastery shortly after Babo's execution.
