Feature
★ This is a documentary account of retirement and the economic and psychological security that comes with it. Through the lenses of psychology and humanism, George Zimmar dissects how modern individuals, once their paycheck stops, can rediscover their unique place and sense of dignity within their families and communities.
★ Drawing on the personal stories of more than a dozen ordinary people, as well as the author’s own experiences, the book explores individuals’ pursuit of financial security in retirement, examines the impact of social and sexual revolutions on traditional values, and investigates how people, after retirement, seek anew the meaning of life, the nature of interpersonal relationships, and the value of community.
Description
The book explores people’s search for meaning in retirement, and the enduring value of interpersonal relationships and community ties. As author George Zimmar puts it: “My paycheck has retired, but I’m still working.”
