The Great Japgwi Rebellion: Low-Ranking Ghosts
Have you heard of the “Japgwi”? They’re said to be the lowest‑ranked among the countless spirits in the world. “Ghost House Adventures 1” tells the tale of these insignificant little ghosts and their adventures. Their wish is simple: to scare people! As the first volume of a ten‑part comic series, “Ghost House Adventures 1” chronicles the uproar set off by these would‑be spooksters. At its center is the protagonist, “Gwigi,” who dreams of becoming the most terrifying ghost on earth. He lives in the ceiling of a dilapidated two‑story house in the city center—selfish, always looking down on everyone, and without a single friend. Just then, a child whom all the Japgwi adore moves in next door. Gwigi is constantly on the lookout for a chance to frighten that kid. But one day, out of the blue, a bolt from the blue strikes: the Heavenly Emperor decrees, “Since humans in this world are now more frightening than ghosts, all spirits must return to the underworld!”

Gwigi grits his teeth—there’s no way he’ll let that happen. After much deliberation, he begins rallying other malevolent spirits who share his ambition. There’s Mokgwi, the headless ghost; Nuggwi, who dwells in aged ginseng wine; and Hwagwi, who haunts the elementary school restroom. But how could they possibly be as selfish as Gwigi? Though they’re united in purpose, staying together proves far from easy. Will these evil spirits ultimately get their wish—to stay in the human world and become the scariest ghosts of all?
