Review

A book that makes you feel seen and heard!
Sitting down to read this book gave me so many validations for feelings I have had about myself since childhood. It really gave me a way to self-reflect about memories from my past. I especially liked the journaling component after each chapter. I found it to be very therapeutic. As a person of faith, I love the added scripture after each chapter because God is present in it all and He never does leave us, even through traumatic events. I highly recommend it. It's an easy and amazing read.

Feature

★ A Genuine and Heartwarming Journey of Healing
With the clarity of a psychotherapist, the heartfelt authenticity of a mother, and the relatable quirks of a pet parent, Anne Petraro invites readers into a world of healing that is both professional and deeply grounded in everyday life—filled with laughter tinged with tears and light born out of pain, helping you find your own path to release through shared experience.

★ Written for All “Overthinkers” and “Trauma Survivors”
This book is both a memoir and a guided journal. Whether you’re grappling with anxiety, loss, or self-doubt, it serves as a gentle yet wise friend, beckoning you to embark on an honest, raw, and sometimes absurd journey of simply being human.

★ Breaking Down the Barrier Between “Experts” and “Ordinary People”
The author doesn’t pretend to be perfect; instead, she openly shares her own moments of breakdown, binge eating, and crying in the shower—making her more approachable and her healing wisdom all the more trustworthy.

★ Humor Is Medicine for the Soul
Far from rigid psychological jargon, this book is brimming with the unvarnished, everyday reality of “chips and TV,” using humor to gently unravel trauma. It shows that true healing doesn’t require you to be flawless—you are already worthy of care, joy, and wholeness just as you are.

Description

Therapists are human too.
They cry in the shower, spiral at 2 a.m., and occasionally eat an entire bag of chips while rewatching the same comfort show-just like everyone else.
In Therapized, Anne Petraro-a licensed therapist, educator, and unapologetic dog mom-opens up not just as a professional, but as a person who's lived through trauma, healing, and everything in between (with snacks in her pocket and dog hair on her clothes).
Part memoir, part guided journal, this book invites you into the real, raw, and sometimes ridiculous process of being human. Through deeply personal stories and powerful journaling prompts, Anne helps you stop striving to be "fixed" and start accepting what it means to be fully, beautifully, imperfectly real.
You'll laugh, cry, maybe throw the book across the room-but most importantly, you'll feel seen. Not as a diagnosis or a label, but as someone deeply worthy of healing and joy.
Written with heart, grit, and enough dog hair to knit a sweater, Therapized is for the over-thinkers, the people-pleasers, the trauma survivors, and the ones still trying to make sense of it all. You don't need to have it all together to begin. You just need to show up.
Let Therapized be the place you finally do.

Author

Anne Petraro
Anne Petraro is a beautifully imperfect, authentic educator, PhD, licensed mental health counselor, certified rehabilitation counselor and nationally certified intervention specialist, CEO, volunteer, and freelance artist. She is the founder and CEO of Petraro Consulting and a co-founder of a nonprofit organization. Despite illustrating her son’s work, she still manages to squeeze in time for snacks. She brings clinical depth and genuine warmth to everything she does.
Anne employs a client-centered, integrative approach to better meet her clients’ needs and goals. Her therapeutic methods draw from various orientations, creating an optimal counseling experience. All of her techniques are well-documented in the literature and endorsed by the American Psychological Association as clinically effective. These include, but are not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Positive Psychology, and Psychodynamic Therapy. She specializes in treating anxiety/depression, grief and loss, eating disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), panic disorder, and providing couples counseling. Her services are available to individuals of all ages, including children and adolescents.

Driven by unwavering faith, a deep passion for healing, and a humorous perspective on the human experience, Anne’s writing mirrors her life: raw, bold, and perpetually covered in dog hair. This book is her debut—a blend of memoir and healing guide—overflowing with sincerity.

Anne lives in New York City with her son Joseph, her husband Oz, and two dogs (one of whom is a rescue; both firmly believe they run the household). She relishes motherhood, cherishes artistic creation, and advocates for others, helping them discover their own voices.
