Trauma Awareness made Accessible
There has been increased awareness and interest around trauma in recent years. But what is trauma? What is the difference between chronic trauma and acute trauma? And how can each manifest in our daily lives? How can we heal and build resilience to overcome unhelpful strategies that we have formed as a result of traumatic experiences?
To find solid answers to these questions, look no further than to Ybe Casteleyn’s brilliant book “The Healing Power of Pain”, which explains these concepts in easily understandable language, through stories that we can relate to and aptly illustrated by her daughter Lara.

Feature

★ Understand trauma from a professional perspective and initiate healing through scientific methods.
A work by Ybe Castelijn, one of Europe’s most renowned experts in psychological trauma and a leading advocate for the “trauma-informed society” approach! Grounded in robust trauma psychology, this book systematically dissects the causes, manifestations, and impacts of both acute and chronic trauma, offering readers a clear and reliable “trauma awareness map.” By integrating clinical expertise with self-help techniques, it transforms “trauma”—once an elusive source of suffering—into a comprehensible and confrontable part of one’s life journey.

★ A “self-help guide” that goes beyond mere techniques to empower inner growth.
The book presents a series of practical, step-by-step exercises rooted in everyday life, ranging from emotional regulation strategies to narrative reconstruction methods. These include components such as emotion recognition, safety restoration, mind–body integration, and self-compassion. While emphasizing immediate emotional soothing, it also prioritizes long-term recovery of self-functioning, creating a sustained and effective personal healing system.

★ The dual dimensions of trauma healing: individual transformation and societal empathy.
Rather than confining healing to the individual inner world, the author champions a “trauma-informed” social paradigm. Moving beyond symptom relief, the book focuses on reframing meaning after trauma and fostering personal growth. Building on the foundation of helping individuals regain inner stability, it guides readers to explore the profound impact of traumatic experiences on their values, relationships, and sense of purpose.
