“Bering manages to capture the essence of our feminist debates with a humorous touch, debates from which no one on the island can escape. Who says a feminist icon must be all-forgiving and gentle?” — Lynn Knecker, Emotion
Description
After a plane crash, twenty women find themselves on a remote island, unsure whether they’ve landed in paradise or hell.
Sophie wants to practice yoga and even build a menstrual hut for everyone; Aurélia sees this as cultural appropriation; Bent is determined to declare Lesbos an independent state; Els dreams of establishing a matriarchal society but can’t find any allies; Noëlla is keen to experiment with communism; Nikki is searching for her stash of drugs; Billie isn’t even a woman; Evren is furious; Kara has a vision of the goddess of feminism; Naja misses her companion; Annie finds the whole situation irritating; and Betty, completely lost, just wants to go home.
The world is in crisis—and these twenty women are now in grave danger after the crash. How much does their turf war really matter? And how can they come together to create a new future? Perhaps the most important question of all is: Will they survive?
