Description
Renowned children’s author Alyona Kashura has crafted a tightly plotted and heartwarming poetic fairy tale centered on one of kids’ most beloved characters – the Tooth Fairy. Young readers will not only be immersed in a thrilling adventure and investigation, but also learn a wealth of fascinating facts: Do elephants have baby teeth? Do sperm whales lose their teeth? What exactly is a narwhal’s tusk? And many more intriguing tidbits await discovery.
The story follows a little Tooth Fairy who must, within a single night, find the owner of a mysterious tooth she accidentally picked up on the beach, somewhere in the vast ocean. Our heroine is about to embark on a perilous journey, befriend a hyperactive dolphin and a wise sperm whale, and escape the clutches of a sharp-toothed shark.
Though small in stature, this brave Tooth Fairy courageously faces all trials and tribulations. She never gives up or lets her wings droop, standing firm against both the forces of nature and her own fears. Her story reminds readers that it is crucial to stay true to oneself and keep a cool head no matter the situation, for after the darkest and gloomiest night, dawn always breaks, promising a brand-new day and hope.
Illustrator Maria Volkova has brought this gripping and touching tale to life with her artwork. She depicts a cast of characters both kind and dangerous, toothy and fanged, across the book’s pages. Additionally, she has added notes from the diligent little Tooth Fairy on the book’s endpapers. By studying these notes, children can learn the difference between incisors and canines, as well as how the teeth of mammals differ from those of reptiles and amphibians.

# Message from the Author
This book about the Tooth Fairy would never have seen the light of day without my fellow writer friends.
It all started with Ksyusha Gorbunova and her short animated film Klyuchik (Little Piece) – a cartoon about a robot with a big head produced by the company Lalabuk. I wanted to create something similar for animation too, so I decided to write something light, interesting and engaging. But what?
Just then, quite unexpectedly, another colleague came to my aid – Irina Butenko. I was reading her popular science article about teeth when a thought suddenly struck me: What if animals had their own Tooth Fairy? Actually, this is how many of my books begin: “And then I suddenly thought, what if…?”
I started to imagine what gifts the Tooth Fairy might bring to different animals, where she learned to tell different teeth apart? And most importantly, what kind of trouble could befall a Tooth Fairy? After all, there is no fairy tale without drama. The plot quickly took shape in my mind. All that was left was to turn it into poetry. This part was much harder. Because before this, I had only written prose; poetry was uncharted territory for me.
Imagination came to my rescue: I pictured words as puzzle pieces that needed to be fitted together perfectly, piece by piece. That’s how I put together each line. And so, the story of the Tooth Fairy was born. I hope it will be loved by all young readers and their parents!
Author
In 2008, she graduated from Voronezh State University with a degree in Journalism, even though in her childhood she had wanted to become a veterinarian, a doctor, and an actress. As early as 2009, she won the A. A. Vermishev Award for the best journalistic works within a special project, for a series of fairy tales about school meal arrangements in Lipetsk.
As time went on, she outgrew the pages of newspapers and decided to write a longer story, a project that took about a year to complete. She began writing books after the birth of her daughter Ksenia. Her debut book was published in 2015, and in the same year, it won the International Pyotr Ershov Competition in the “Heirs of Ershov” category, as well as the Silver Knight Award at the International Slavic Literary Forum Golden Knight.
She has participated in the International Forum of Young Writers and Poets of Russia, CIS countries and abroad, and is a scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture.
She considers her husband Oleg and their three children – Ksenia, Nikolai and Maria – to be her main sources of inspiration, readers and critics. That is why the theme of family runs like a red thread through all her books. Through her works, she strives to convey to readers that family is the most precious thing everyone has. By the way, she often draws her characters from real life. Perhaps that is why people immediately and unconditionally believe in her stories.
