Dr. Kanani K. Lee (Author)
Dr. Kanani K. Lee is a geophysicist, serving as a professor of physics in the Science Department at the United States Coast Guard Academy. She has previously held positions as a research physicist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, an associate professor in the Department of Geology and Geophysics at Yale University, and a part-time associate professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley.
Her research focuses on the physical and chemical properties of planetary materials, including, but not limited to, crystal structures and phase diagrams under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions. Understanding the properties of materials deep within planets is crucial for unraveling the formation and evolution of Earth and other planets. This, in turn, allows us to gain deeper insights into the processes that shape planetary habitability—or its lack thereof. Her experimental techniques include laser-heated diamond anvil cells, electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, focused ion beam milling, and optical and infrared spectroscopy.
Dr. Lee actively participates in international scientific societies such as the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the American Physical Society (APS). She is also the author of the graphic novel series “The Incredible Comic of Plate Tectonics: The Adventures of Geo.”

Gabriel Mayorga (Illustrator)
Gabriel Mayorga is an illustrator, inker, and writer with over twenty years of experience as a comic artist, 2D animator, and educator. In collaboration with Adam Valenta, Gabriel continues to create adventures in “Punk Taco” and is soon to publish a graphic novel. He resides in Mexico City with his family.

Justin Birch (Letterer)
Justin Birch is a letterer nominated for the 2018 Ringo Award, born and raised in the mountainous region of West Virginia. Since beginning work in comic book lettering in 2015, he has been a member of the type design studio AndWorld Design, collaborating with DC, IDW, Dynamite, Lion Forge Comics, Mad Cave Studios, Action Lab Comics, DMC Comics, Source Point Press, Z2 Comics, and numerous independent publishers. Justin currently remains based in West Virginia.
