2. A story filled with gentle melancholy and warmth, complemented by romantic, dreamy, pure, and bright illustrations, creates a poetic chemical reaction that nourishes our long-lonely hearts.
3. Dedicated to those who persist against the current, bravely searching for long-lost friends—the greatest distance is never space or time. If the heart can arrive, anything is possible.

--Editor’s Recommendation

“Du Fan’s picture book Snow and Summer is a seasonal fairy tale: I defy the laws of the universe, risking everything, just to see you one more time. Modern readers may easily interpret such an epic journey as the ultimate form of ‘love.’ The meeting of Snow and Summer even puzzled the author herself—Aren’t you afraid? Is it worth it? Watching Snow’s long journey, I can’t help but feel inspired: If your heart desires it, go for it. Don’t question the cost, and don’t look back.”
--Mo Yin

Description

Snow and Summer is a deeply personal reflection from the author Du Fan. The seasonal spirits Snow and Summer are childhood friends who grow apart due to their respective duties. As time passes, Snow becomes an old man nearing retirement, but he has never forgotten Summer. He decides to journey halfway across the world to find Summer and spend the last stretch of life together… Du Fan personifies the familiar winter snow and summer sun as two protagonists, using the cycle of the four seasons to tell a soft, whisper-like spiritual fairy tale. Pure and bright, with a touch of gentle sorrow, it speaks of the world’s most precious emotions, creating a poetic chemical reaction.

Author

Du Fan

Currently based in Beijing, Du Fan is a fairy tale and picture book creator, freelance illustrator, and independent comics artist. She has illustrated novels for numerous literary journals and publishing houses. She is the author of the short fairy tale collection Four Seasons’ Fairy Tales and the representative picture books Snow and Summer and The Runaway Red Balloon. Snow and Summer is Du Fan’s first picture book, born in the summer of 2020. Perhaps even she didn’t expect that this story about love, growth, friendship, and promises would originate from a small trip to the suburbs. “Because of the pandemic, the mountains were very quiet. I meditated quietly in the forest, and when I opened my eyes, the overwhelming green seemed to take on a life of its own, swaying like spirits. I returned to a café at the foot of the mountain, stroked an old cat, and wrote this short fairy tale.”
