Description

In the middle of Gaza City, north of the Palestinian enclave devastated by the bombings, stands the Church of the Holy Family, miraculously intact.
Dozens of families flock here daily to find refuge as they stuggle to
survive since the response by Israel to the Hamas terrorist attack on
October 7, 2023.
Each day, people pray that the cross reaching high into the sky will
divert the missiles. Each day, with a smile or a simple hug, Father
Gabriel Romanelli, the sole priest in Gaza, and who refused to leave his church and the inhabitants of the destroyed enclave, welcomes all
refugees in search of a little comfort, hope...and a ray of light in the midst of ruins and death.
In this unique and deeply moving account from a devastated land,
Father Gabriel tells of his daily life: that of a man who, against all odds, helps men, women and children to survive in the heart of an on-going conflict with international repercussions.

Author

Argentinian-born Father Gabriel Romanelli is the parish priest of the Church of the Holy Family in the center of Gaza City. He entered the service of the diocese of Jerusalem over 25 years ago, and is today
the only priest still stationed in the Gaza Strip.
Father Gabriel Romanelli, was in Jerusalem on the day of the Hamas terrorist attacks OCT 7th 2023. He immediately returned to his parish in Gaza City in order to be at the sides of all those - regardless of origin or religion - who needed his presence and his help...despite the intensive bombing.
Pope Francis called Father Gabriel every day in his Parish Church to offer his unfathomable support for over 18 months following the Hamas terror attack. The Pope's last call to Father Gabriel came on Holy Saturday to say 'thank you... for all that we did here'."."In the same time, he asked [for] prayer and gave the blessing for all the people, for the Christian community and for all the citizens in Gaza,
