Review

A novelist encountered rare birds and mystery and rich forest kingdom in southwest border, especially the reproduction of rare animals. He also saw that natural ecology benefits and feeds human and the concept of modern civilization penetrates and takes root. It has become people’s conscious behavior in nature reserves to be kind to the nature and live in harmony with the nature so that the nature returns to its original appearance and feeds human back. Zhang Qingguo traveled several times to the dense forest of the frontier village, walked deep into the scene, collect stories and dig up details to complete this work.——Wang Bisheng, the former deputy director of Arts Department of People’s Daily

Feature

★ The stories and reflections of seeing the birds in Yingjiang County, Yunnan Province, China, and people and the environment living together. There are more than 9,000 species of birds worldwide, about 1,300 in China, 800 in Yunnan, and more than 500 in Yingjiang County. The hornbills, the protagonist of this book, are faithful love birds as the male and female stay together for a lifetime. They only exist in a few countries and regions around the world.
★ This book won the first He Jianming China Creative Writing Award! The first work by a Chinese writer to record and depict birdwatching activities in China and the world combines in-depth reporting, ecological literature, popular science literature, local history, industry history and other non-fiction genres.
★ The beautifully-designed book has a cutout tree hole on the cover, echoing interestingly with the hornbill next to the hole. The main text is designed with several hand-tearable postcards and several pages of hand-drawn color illustrations.

Description

Flying is an incredible ability. Birds can fly and are therefore the most mysterious beings on earth. Flying high in the sky with expanded vision, seeing signs that cannot be seen by those walking on the ground, the bird has magic, event predictability and inspiration... The same is true of the hornbills, colloquially described as lovebirds with cartoonish appearance. Hornbills are magicians, too, shaking the forest with their strong and cold calls from the tops of trees...
The author's book is about birds. In the alpine virgin forest of Yingjiang County on the China-Myanmar border live many birds. As the internationally popular bird-watching has entered China and also entered the deep mountains of western Yunnan, the relationship between people and birds has undergone significant changes...
