The Miser, also known as The school of Lies is one of the most renowned plays by Molière, a hilarious comedy of entanglements, between love and money.

Description

Harpagon is an old man obsessed with the wealth he has amassed. He is a widower, he has a son, Cléante, and a daughter, Élise. Although he is over sixty, he is attempting to arrange a marriage between himself and an attractive young woman, Mariane. Mariane and Cléante are already devoted to each other, so he will attempt to procure a loan to help her and her sick mother, who are impoverished. On the other hand, Élise, Harpagon's daughter, is the beloved of Valère, but her father hopes to marry her to a wealthy man of his choosing, Mr. Anselm. Meanwhile, Valère has taken a job as steward in Harpagon's household so as to be lose to Élise. The end will bring us a discovery about some of the characters being long lost relatives.

Author

Rosa Navarro Durán. She is a professor of Spanish Literature of the Golden Age at the University of Barcelona. Among her text editions, we can find the Libro de suertes, the two dialogues of Alfonso Valdés; Novelas ejemplares de Miguel de Cervantes, etc. She is the author of La Mirada al texto, ¿Por qué hay que leer los clásicos?, Cómo leer un poema and numerous articles on textual problems and texts around the topic of Golden Age and contemporary literature . Her talks and seminars about Literature are highly valued by the literary society in Spain and Latin America.

Iban Barrenetxea was born in 1973 in Elgoibar (Guipúzcoa). In 2010, he began his career in the world of picture books after a decade of dedication to graphic design. Since then, he has illustrated more than a dozen books, and is the actual author of the text of several of them. He is the illustrator of ERIK VOGLER series covers.
