【Introduction】
From junior high school onward, both parents and children often experience a common sentiment: when we fail to build sufficient interest in a subject or reach a breakthrough introductory stage, the accelerating curriculum causes knowledge gaps to accumulate like a snowball. Teachers may not always have the time or opportunity to assist struggling students, leading to self-doubt and disappointment in one’s abilities, ultimately resulting in lost interest. However, the reality is that any child, regardless of innate talent, can enter and master a subject—the key lies in the process of understanding. Each subject is the start of our journey to explore the world, each mirrors a different aspect of our diverse planet, and each can be opened up in a highly entertaining manner!
The “Fun Subject Exploration” series employs precisely this kind of fun approach to unlock these subjects. These unusual children’s encyclopedias are written by renowned scientists and experts in their respective fields. They share their exploration processes and secrets with young readers, effortlessly resolving those seemingly daunting and perplexing challenges that arise during learning.

Description

This book is designed for schoolchildren intimidated by frightening physics formulas and complex terminology. Journalist, columnist, and author Masha Traub, who hails from a humanities background, has ventured into a field seemingly distant from her interests—physics! With the help of her son Vasily Kolesnikov, Masha authored this book. Vasily is a physics student at Moscow State University with a lifelong passion for natural sciences. Naturally, Masha’s daughter also contributed actively by participating in school physics courses. Together, they have created a family-friendly popular science book on physics, filled with debates, examples, and jokes. The illustrations are meticulously designed and drawn by Victoria Kitavina.

【Excerpt from a Dialogue in the Book】
“What is physics?” Shim asked his brother.
“Life. All of us and everything around us.” Vasily replied, “Physics is the science of life.”
“Isn’t that philosophy?” I expressed surprise.
“The mystery lies here. Physics encompasses everything—philosophy, literature, mathematics, history and geography, chemistry, and biology.”

Author

Masha Traub (1976)

Renowned writer, columnist, and journalist. Masha was born in 1976 in Moscow and graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations with a degree in international journalism. She has worked at all-Russian socio-political publishing outlets and collaborated with media such as “Izvestia”, “Psychology”, and “Bosco” magazine. Most of her works focus on motherhood, child-rearing, and the daily lives and lifestyles of the modern Russian urban middle class. She has two children; her son Vasily Kolesnikov is currently a physics student at Moscow State University and co-authored this physics book.
Critics have praised Masha Traub as “Trifonov in a skirt” and “the female Dovlatov”.
