Author
A renowned Japanese neuroscience expert and medical doctor, Ryuta Kawashima is a pioneer in Japan’s “brain imaging” research, which studies the functions of different brain areas. After obtaining his doctorate, Kawashima moved to Sweden, serving as a guest researcher at the Karolinska Institute. He later returned to Japan and is currently a professor at Tohoku University. He has also served as a member of a Japanese government council, involved in language and cultural departments.
Kawashima’s research primarily focuses on two areas: first, linking different brain regions to capabilities such as emotion, language, memory, and cognition; second, applying this knowledge to aid child development, help the elderly maintain memory, and assist patients in recovering learning abilities. His book “Train Your Brain: 60 Days to a Better Brain” achieved tremendous success, selling over 1 million copies in Japan alone and more than 2.5 million copies worldwide! He was also responsible for supervising the development of the highly popular casual puzzle game “Brain Age: Concentration Training,” supervised by Professor Ryuta Kawashima, produced by Nintendo.
