Description

In the novel "Defense," the protagonist is the grandson of Stalin's repressed oppressed, who in the mid-'90s goes to find traces of his grandfather. His investigation turns into a tense fantasy detective story with an unexpected and terrifying ending.
From teh author: "Defense" was the first novel I wrote 25 years ago, and it was so terrifyingly conceived that I offered the plot of the novel to all the writers I knew—everyone was drawn to the idea, But they said it was impossible to write. The wave of hatred this book caused was completely unpredictable to me. But none of my previous articles have received so much attention. It seems, in a way, that I'm really crazy.
