★ Offers readers a deep personal encounter with the lives and art of genius artists, giving the feeling of meeting—and even befriending—historical protagonists.
★ Lively, jargon-free language makes the book accessible to every art-lover.

Description

If given the chance, how would an artist tell his own life story? What would he choose to talk about—and what would he keep silent about? What image would he want to create in the reader’s mind?
This book lets us hear the voices of past genius artists and presents three perspectives:
The artist’s subjective view: the side they want us to see;
The historian’s view: what lies behind this emotional bond, what these paintings and people express and why they matter;
The author’s view: the personal story she reconstructs across space and time through letters, memoirs and paintings.

Charina Asfari – art critic. Fascinated from childhood by artists’ biographies, she graduated from an art school and a journalism faculty, studied in a post-impressionist studio and worked as a freelance guide at the Pushkin Museum. Since 2015 she has given adult art-lectures.
