Author
William Lee Mapp III currently serves as Chief Technology Officer at the healthcare technology company Qlarant. A lifelong computer enthusiast, he is a seasoned engineer, inventor, and executive, holding numerous trademarks, copyrights, and patents. The software and systems he has designed are in operation across more than 23 countries, and his technological solutions have benefited over one billion people worldwide.
His technical career began at NASA, after which he went on to build teams and develop solutions for many of America’s leading technology and consulting firms, including IBM and Lockheed Martin. In 2006, he founded his first technology company, BA Systems, and played a pivotal role in building the data-processing system for the 2010 U.S. Census. As president of BA Systems, Will led the company into the emerging RFID market; he helped design the world’s first RFID bookshelf and built a nationwide regulatory‑compliance chain system for McKesson, which later earned an award from Diversity Business magazine.
After leaving BA Systems, Will founded Studio Codeworks, returning to the mobile and big‑data processing spaces. Under his leadership, Studio Codeworks entered the video‑game market, releasing the award‑winning title DibDibs. The studio’s engineering talent also made significant contributions in less visible domains, such as tracking and safeguarding the assets of the 500‑acre U.S. Capitol complex, as well as sterilizing bacteria and biological agents for Pfizer. Under Will’s stewardship, Studio Codeworks received commendations from the Governor of Maryland, multiple awards from the Maryland State Senate, and recognitions from Senators Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin.
Currently, he focuses on product ownership, solution architecture, system design, software engineering, DevSecOps, game systems, learning models, and artificial intelligence. He has been active in programming since the age of seven.
Over the years, he has served as a radio host, a technology analyst, and a podcast guest, and is the author of The Small Business Owner’s Tech Guide and Trans Graffiti.
