Review
A Melancholic Interpretation of the Multiverse
As the title UniverSad implies, this work blends the Universe with Sadness. It shows that the existence of parallel worlds is not a blessing, but a curse that makes finding 'your person' impossible. Pipe's step into the dark, knowing the odds are near zero, is tragic yet beautiful.
Psychological Portrayal in Pitch Darkness
The depiction of the 11 minutes of darkness is masterful. Stripped of visuals, the story maximizes emotional tension through the warmth of a hand, the tremor in a voice, and the sound of footsteps. New's question, "Isn't this world enough?" becomes a colossal declaration of love across the cosmos.
Redefining Relationships
The crumbling of Pipe's wall of hatred toward the 'impostor' New in the face of unconditional sacrifice forces the reader to ask: Is a true relationship defined by memory, or by the tangible reality of the present?
Feature
★ It features highly recognizable iconic settings: an 11-minute inter-dimensional rift opening at 11:11 every night, and a 15-second hand-washing ritual with the birthday song to anchor fragmented memory. It builds suspense and fantasy at first, ending with a heartbreaking reveal. Targeting readers and audiences of The Father and Memento, it is highly suitable for publication, TV series and short drama adaptation.
Description
At a university campus, a 1km walkway connects Lecture Buildings 1 and 5. Every night at 11:11 PM, a mysterious phenomenon occurs: all lights extinguish simultaneously for exactly 11 minutes. Rumors say the path intersects with another dimension during this window, and walkers are lost to a parallel world forever. For the protagonist, Pipe, this ominous warning sign is not a deterrent, but his only hope.
Pipe reveals he is not from this world and intends to cross this path to return "back" to his original parallel universe. His friend New discovers his plan and argues with logic: if there are millions of parallel worlds, the chance of returning to the correct one is nearly zero (1/infinity). But Pipe relies on the illogical mechanism of 'hope' to overcome these odds. Pipe has secretly hated this world's New as an 'impostor' because he isn't his New, but New volunteers to join him, refusing to let Pipe face the danger alone.
Author
Architect of the Neuro-Psycho-Thriller
Neurologist. Storyteller. Creator of the Neuro-Verse.
Patrick Rangsimant (Utain Boonorana, M.D., FRCP) is one of Thailand's most distinctive contemporary authors. A practicing neurologist by profession, he has built a unique body of work that transforms neuroscience, psychiatry, memory, identity, and human perception into compelling commercial fiction.
Blending psychological thriller, speculative fiction, mystery, horror, romance, BL, and medical drama, Patrick has established a recognizable creative signature: stories in which reality itself becomes unreliable and the human mind emerges as the ultimate mystery.
His works do not simply use medical conditions as background elements. Schizophrenia, dementia, Capgras Delusion, temporal lobe epilepsy, grief disorders, trauma, and memory distortion become the narrative engines that drive suspense, emotion, and revelation.
The result is a distinctive storytelling territory that may best be described as the Neuro-Psycho-Thriller.
