Peter Svetina
He graduated in Slovene Studies from the Faculty of Philosophy in Ljubljana and later earned his doctorate under the same discipline, focusing on older Slovene poetry. After graduation, he first worked as an assistant for Slovene literature at the Faculty of Philosophy in Ljubljana, then briefly served as the head of the Pioneer Library in Ljubljana. Since 2003, he has been working at the Institute of Slavic Studies at the University of Celje (as an associate professor since 2007).
He writes expert and scientific articles on older Slovene literature, Slovene lyric poetry, and youth literature. He edited the anthology of older Slovene youth literature Pioniri na promenadi, and in the Metuljčiki in mehanikaproject, he is particularly occupied with understanding Slovene youth literature in relation to its social context. He also participates in creating textbooks and translating from other languages (English, Czech, German, and Croatian).
He primarily writes for children and young people. His first picture book O mrožku, ki si ni hotel striči nohtov je izšlawas published in 1999, and soon after, a puppet play based on it was also created. Some of his poems and stories have been translated into foreign languages (English, German, and Korean). He also writes poems for adults. The first collection Kavarna v prvem nadstropjuwas published in 2001.
