Description

“The City of Art,” Paris, is home to a wealth of world-class museums, most notably the Louvre. Even today, countless people make a special trip to this city just to experience its artistic treasures.

Yet beyond the well-known masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa and the Water Lilies, Paris is dotted with works that span the entire history of Western art—from ancient sculptures and medieval tapestries to 19th-century paintings and contemporary street art—a fact that remains relatively unknown to many.

Paris Walks: A Journey Through 5,000 Years of Western Art History is a guidebook that invites readers to explore the heart of Paris through the lens of art. As a sequel to the 2024 publication Paris Walks, this book divides Western art history by period and presents a seven-day walking itinerary, offering a suggested route for visiting key museums and must-see works.

Each itinerary also includes recommendations for lunch spots and cafés along the way. In addition, the book features informative sidebars and glossaries that explain the historical context of each era, the artists involved, and their representative works. Whether you’re planning a trip to Paris or simply wish to deepen your understanding of art from the comfort of your home, this guide will help you clearly grasp the evolution of Western art.

This book serves multiple purposes: it can be studied in advance to prepare for your visit, used as a practical companion during your travels, and revisited upon your return to relive those memorable moments. Embark on a thought-provoking, art-infused stroll through Paris and join us for a seven-day journey filled with intellectual discovery.
