Description
We are the Egg Ghosts—Daldaldalgyalgyalgyal!
Once upon a time, long, long ago, a scholar passing through a deep, dense mountain called out to a stranger who was walking off the path. "Hey there, that's not the way. Come this way." The stranger spun his head around at those words, and the scholar, startled by the face he saw, burst into tears and fled in terror. For what had appeared before him were the six egg ghosts: Daldaldalgyalgyalgyal. As time went by, Daldaldalgyalgyalgyal decided to audition for a ghost role in Zombies Are Scary 2. Confident that no one could be scarier than them, they gave it their all when the judges asked to see something truly terrifying. But the judges' reactions were strange. "Not scary at all. Lively. And extremely cute." In the end, Daldaldalgyalgyalgyal did not pass the audition.
The six egg ghosts—Daldaldalgyalgyalgyal—
not scary at all, lively, and extremely cute
"What's the problem with being cute?" "Can't ghosts be cute?" Having failed the audition because they were too cute, Daldaldalgyalgyalgyal fell into deep worry. Ghosts are supposed to be scary, but must they truly be frightening? At first glance, the round, clustered Daldaldalgyalgyalgyal may look alike like twins, but upon closer inspection, each has their own distinct personality. Dal, the quick-acting leader; Daldal, thoughtful and sensitive; Daldaldal, the scariest among them yet convinced of his own cuteness, with a smooth egg-like appearance. Geol, who always flies upside down; Geolgyal, who keeps exploring his own path even when all his friends go one way; Geolgyalgyal, who can be crying one moment and jump up at the sight of food—each possesses especially long hair or fluffy down. As we follow Daldaldalgyalgyalgyal as they gradually discover the joy and fulfillment of work, our own desire to find what we love grows. Chant the lively, adorable egg ghosts' names like a spell, and set out to find your own "Daldaldalgyalgyalgyal" path.
We may not have money, but we have dreams!
Gently cradle your precious dreams like an egg
Daldaldalgyalgyalgyal is a growth story about six egg ghosts who want to find something they're good at, as they seek out the role and place that truly fits them. Any reader who has ever wondered, "What will I be when I grow up?" or "What am I good at?" will find this story deeply relatable. With so many things yet untried and paths yet untraveled, the idea of what we want to become can feel vague. To those readers, this book offers the message that just by shifting our gaze a little, the door to diverse experiences and opportunities for trying new things swings wide open. Author Simtong, who found her own path after wandering many roads, sends this cheerful encouragement through the egg ghosts: "If you don't like the path you're on or it disappears, you can take another path, turn back, make your own way, or even take a nap and think it over!" This picture book wishes you happiness at every crossroads before you, cheering you on as your most enthusiastic supporter.
