Review

"This journey through shadows shows us that the roots of our history can be both a burden and a guide toward freedom." — Carla Antonelli

"A vibrant, intelligent, captivating, and highly cinematic novel." — Carlos Iglesias

"Fierce, lucid, and written with the raw honesty of someone who has looked the wound straight in the face." — Irene Vaquero (RNE)

Description

The Past Never Dies draws us into a new emotional and geographical territory, straddling contemporary Spain and the Mexico of the "economic miracle." Its protagonist, Nicomedes, is dead, yet still breathes: he flees from Huelva to Portugal and then to Mexico, leaving behind a trail of violence that will rot everything it touches.

Inspired by historical documents linked to the author's own family history, this novel is constructed through a sordid puzzle of broken characters, inherited traumas, and unhealed wounds. A story in which "the apple that rotted the basket" did not fall on its own, but was the inevitable fruit of a chain of abuse, silences, and shattered destinies.

With an introspective and penetrating style, The Past Never Dies not only confirms Soraya Romero's narrative maturity but also brings essential questions about identity, guilt, and emotional inheritance back to the forefront, with the reflective approach that characterizes the author.

A must-read for those who believe that the past never truly fades away.
