Description
Author
Javier Ariza is a registered psychologist, member of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in International Studies from Université de Montréal. He is also a certified expert with Psychology Today. Fluent in English, French, and Spanish, he has extensive experience assisting individuals and couples dealing with anger, anxiety, depression, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), personality disorders, and interpersonal challenges. Renowned for his advanced conflict analysis and assessment skills, Dr. Ariza does not adhere strictly to any single therapeutic approach or theoretical school. Instead, he integrates elements from various therapeutic techniques to tailor treatment plans that are both efficient and effective for each client. Over the course of his career, he has guided more than 6,000 clients using an integrative therapy model that combines cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic principles, emotion-focused therapy (EFT), neuroscience, and humanistic approaches.
From 2003 to 2004, Javier served as a psychologist and chief coordinator, providing psychological services to victims of armed conflict and forced migration on behalf of the Colombian government. In 2006, he volunteered at Douglas Mental Health University Institute’s “Rehabilitation” program, supporting patients with severe cognitive impairments, in Montreal, Canada. In 2011, he was selected to participate in a groundbreaking pilot project called “Service Premier Ligne,” jointly conducted by the Montreal Police Service (SPVM) and Pro-gam. This globally unique initiative involved interviewing men arrested for domestic violence, with the aim of offering them a safe space to reflect on their actions during temporary detention. “This is not only a crisis intervention service but also an opportunity for them to examine their behavior,” Dr. Ariza explained. “Moreover, it provides access to resources that can help them address issues related to domestic violence and emotional regulation.” The pilot project received the SPVM’s Excellence Award in 2013. In 2012, he was employed as the English-language services coordinator at a center dedicated to preventing and researching domestic violence.
Dr. Javier Ariza offers a range of emotional management services designed to meet his clients’ complex needs. With broad training in mental health, couple relationships, and family dynamics, his work focuses on helping individuals break unhealthy emotional patterns and cultivate lasting inner peace.
