Description
Detective Sae of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police’s Organized Crime Division—feared even by the yakuza—returns in the 6th installment of the wildly popular “Hunter” series, which has sold over 2.4 million copies.
At the scene, Sae learns that his former junior from the Mobile Investigation Unit, Taki, has died. But Taki was assigned to the Ikebukuro substation. Why was he there? As Sae digs deeper, he discovers that Taki had been investigating an 18-year-old cold case. Joined by Taki’s ex-wife Akie, Sae pursues the truth...
The author revealed that the title was decided over five years ago. What really happened that day inside the building that became a coffin for so many? When the full truth comes to light, readers will experience the most powerful emotional payoff in the series.
Author
A leading figure in Japanese hard-boiled fiction.
Born in Nagoya in 1956. Inspired by American hard-boiled masters like Raymond Chandler, he decided to become a writer from an early age. He made his debut in 1979 with “Sentimental Street Corner,” but his early books failed to sell; over 11 years, 28 titles went out of print after just one edition, earning him the nickname “the perpetual first-printing author.”
His breakthrough came in 1990 with “Shinjuku Shark,” which topped the “Kono Mystery ga Sugoi!” rankings and became a phenomenon. The following year, it won both the Mystery Writers of Japan Award and the Yoshikawa Eiji Prize for New Writers, establishing Osawa as one of Japan’s top novelists.
Since then, he has continued to write hard-boiled and adventure fiction, anchored by the long-running “Shinjuku Shark” series. He served as chairman of the Mystery Writers of Japan from 2005 to 2009. His bestselling “Hunter” series has sold over 2.4 million copies.
